Biography

Maritta Becker was a German ice hockey forward participating in three Winter Olympics. She finished sixth at both the 2002 Salt Lake City and 2014 Sochi Games, and was fifth at Torino in 2006. Becker also played in five World Championships and won 271 international caps, scoring 89 goals and 98 assists.

At club level, Becker played in Germany with Heilbronner EC (1991-96), Mannheimer ERC (1996-2001), SC Riessersee (2001), and coached ESC Planegg (2012-13), and ERC Ingolstadt (2013-14). In between, she moved to Switzerland and played for DHC Lyss (2001-03), HC Lugano (2003-04), and DSC Oberthurgau (2004-07). She then moved to Sweden and played with AIK Solna (2007-09). Becker won the German national title with Mannheim from 1998-2000 and ESC Planegg in 2013, the Swedish national title with Solna in 2009, and the IIHF Women Champions Cup in 2008.

By profession, Becker became a fitness and ice hockey coach, working with the German U-18 national team from 2010-13 as the chief coach, winning the bronze medal at the 2012 Youth Winter Olympics. Also in 2012, she was inducted into the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
