Biography

Sprint canoeist Antonina Seredina earned two gold medals and one bronze medal in her three Olympics appearances from 1960-68. In 1960 she won the K-1 and the K-2 500 m in Roma and in 1968 added a bronze in the K-2 500 m. In 1964 she finished a disappointing fourth in the K-2 500 m. At the World Championships, Seredina captured two gold medals (1963 and 1966 K-4 500 m) and three silver medals (1958 K-1 500 m, 1958 and 1966 K-2 500 m). Seredina was also six times European champion and 13 times Soviet champion. After retiring from active competition, she became a coach for the Soviet national team and in 1976, was recognized as a top canoeing coach. For her athletic achievements, she received several national honors through the years. In 2010 the International Canoe Federation honored her with a medal for her career achievements in canoeing.
