Biography

David Halpern went to the University of Washington, graduating in 1980 and then obtaining a masters’ degree from Brown University in 1980 in writing. He later worked as a short story writer and a teacher. In college Halpern competed in cross-country skiing and whitewater kayaking. At the 1981 National Sports Festival Halpern won four golds and two silvers in flatwater canoeing. He went to the 1984 Olympics as the current US National Champion in the K-2 500, K-2 1,000, K-4 500, K-4 1,000, and K-4 10,000.
