Biography

In 2005 Markis Kido, brother of Bona Septano, and non-Olympian Pia Zebadiah, won the Asian Badminton Championship and the Indonesia Open together with Hendra Setiawan. They also won the Jakarta Satellite, Hong Kong Open, and China Open in 2006. At the Badminton World Cup in 2007 in Kuala Lumpur, they advanced to the finals and defeated South Korea 21-19, 21-19.

They also won the China Open Super Series in 2007 but, that year, were defeated at the China Masters Super Series by the Chinese world number one pairing Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng 15-21, 16-21. In the last tournament of 2007 they won the final of the Hong Kong Open Super Series. Most recently, they won the Malaysia Super Series in 2008, and at the Olympic tournament in Beijing that year, Kido and partner Hendra Setiawan won the men’s doubles final by beating the Chinese pairing of Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng. In June 2021, Kido died from a heart attack, aged 36.
