Ajtony Ákos competed in show jumping for Hungary at the 1972 Olympics, both individually and with the team. Ákos was a nine-time Hungarian Champion in show jumping. He also placed eighth in the discipline at the 1971 European Championships. He first came to national attention as a young rider when he finished seventh at the 1960 Venice Youth European Championships. Ákos later became a coach, and was responsible for training many of the top Hungarian modern pentathletes in jumping, notably multiple World and Olympic Champion András Balczó. For his efforts in the sports Ákos was given the highest Hungarian equestrian award, the Count István Széchenyi Medal.
