Biography

Bryony Shaw learnt to windsurf whilst on a family holiday in the south of France aged only nine. She won a host of national championships at youth level and was chosen for the 2001 World Championships at the age of 18. Shaw was national champion in 2002 but missed selection for the 2004 Olympic at the final British trials. She won her first international championship medal at the 2006 European Championships (silver) and the following year was victorious in the official Olympic test event in Qingdao. This victory earned her selection for the 2008 Olympics and, after a disqualification in race five threatened her chances, she won a bronze medal by placing second in the final race of her series. She added another bronze at the 2009 European Championships and, despite not winning a further Olympic medal on home waters in 2012, did pick up her second European bronze in Tel Aviv. She also won three World Championship silver medals in 2013, 2015-16 but, at Sicily in 2015, won that elusive gold medal when she was crowned the European RS:X champion.
