After studying medicine Htwe Myint worked for the Ministry of Health in Burma (now Myanmar). During this time Htwe was appointed as a regional adviser for the World Health Organisation. As a public health physician he sat on the board of several health bodies in South-East Asia, in addition to chairing committees on preventative medicines. In 2016 he was appointed to the role of Minister for Health and Sports of Myanmar, before serving as the President of the National Olympic Committee of Myanmar from 2018 to 2021.
