Biography

Nanni Grignolo was involved with equestrianism for most if his life as a judge, technician, manager and three-day-eventer between 1955-60. In that five-year period, he participated in two editions of the European Championships and an unforgettable Olympic competition in 1960.The Italian squads disappointed at the 1955 and 1959 Europeans, both held in England, but at Roma in 1960 those disappointments were largely forgotten when the Azzurri, finished fifth out of 18 participating nations.

After retiring from competitive eventing, Grignolo was able to offer his talents as a teacher at many national and international courses for judges. In his career he held numerous positions, including that of coach of the Indian Cavalry Officers for their Olympic preparation and as riding instructor at the Military Academy in Modena. A kind, elegant and helpful person, Cavalry General Grignolo, was a gentleman, officer and sportsman. He died in early January 2025 at almost 96 years-of-age.
