Biography

French cyclist Léon Bessière represented the Vélo Club de Levallois in the 1920s. In 1924 Bessière was working as a delivery man with a tricycle (“triporteur”). As he was rather comfortable on this machine, he bought a bicycle and became an amateur cyclist. Four years later he finished second in the Paris–Chauny one-day race, earning himself a place on the Olympics team. At the 1928 Games in Amsterdam he finished 22nd in the individual road race, almost 30 minutes behind the race winner, and seventh in the combined team event.
