Biography

Hartmut Bölts, brother of non-Olympian cycling professional Udo Bölts, was a member of the West German 100 km time trial cycling team at the 1984 Los Angeles, finishing a disappointing 12th. In 1983, he won the “Flèche du Sud”, and in 1985 the “Hessen Tour” and the “Cologne-Schuld-Frechen” road race. In 1987 he was the German amateur road race champion. Also in 1987, Bölts was runner-up in the Amateur World Road Racing Championships.

In 1988, Bölts turned professional and rode with R. M. O., and became the German professional road race champion. In 1990, he moved to Team Stuttgart and rode in mountain bike and cross-country races. He retired in 1996 and became sports manager for the “Around Frankfurt” road race. By profession, Bölts became brands manager at Continental for bicycle tyres.
