Born in Bulgaria in 1947, Mevlüt Bora later moved to Turkey, where he became a cyclist on the national team. In 1972 Bora competed in both the road race and the team time trial at the München Olympics, finishing 24th in the latter. He also rode in multiple editions of the Tour of Turkey, winning stages of the race in both 1972 and 1973.
