Lennart Fagerlund

In 1970 Swedish cyclist Lennart Fagerlund won the junior road race title at the Nordic Championships. Despite his early success, Fagerlund rejected offers to turn professional, remaining an amateur throughout his career. Two years later he won the team time trial title at the Nordic Championships, earning a place on the Olympic team. At the München Games he finished 42nd in the road race and sixth in the team time trial.

In 1973 the quartet of Fagerlund, Tord Filipsson, Leif Hansson, and Sven-Åke Nilsson won bronze in the team time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Barcelona. The following year Fagerlund, Filipsson, Nilsson, and Bernt Johansson won gold in the same event at the Road World Championships in Montréal. Throughout the 1970s Fagerlund was a regular at the Milk Race in England, finishing second overall at the 1978 edition of the race. One year later he also became the Swedish champion in the road race event at the national championships.
