Erol Küçükbakırcı began his cycling career in 1969, winning more than a dozen national titles in Turkey over the next eight years. Küçükbakırcı also won races in Algeria, Libya, and Saudi Arabia, as well as bronze in the team pursuit at the 1971 Mediterranean Games. In 1972 he finished 24th with his compatriots in the team time trial at the München Olympics. Four years later he returned to the Games, this time riding in the time trial and the individual pursuit on the track in Montréal, placing 23rd in both events. In 2016 Küçükbakırcı was elected as the President of the Turkish Cycling Federation.
