Biography

Don McKellow was a British cyclist. McKellow and his younger brother Jack were both members of Actonia CC and, along with another team-mate, Ron Kitchenham, were all under consideration for the 1952 Olympics, but only Don made the trip to Helsinki. McKellow competed in the 1,000 metres time trial at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics where he finished in fifth place.

A toolmaker by trade, he went to the Olympics as holder of the North Middlesex and Herts title and had also twice won the Victory Cup at Herne Hill, a trophy won by cycling legends Reg Harris and Alan Bannister. McKellow was also the track manager at Actonia, and his wife Beryl was also a good road racer and time-trialer. After retiring from cycling in the mid-1980s, McKellow and his wife ran dance classes in West Drayton, London. McKellow continued to run the classes into his nineties, where he was known as Mr Melody.
