Biography

Jamaican cyclist Xavier Mirander began his career in 1966 and went on to represent the national team throughout the 1970s. In 1972 Mirander competed in the road race at the München Olympics, but did not complete the course. He had better success two years later, winning gold in the 1,000 metres time trial at the Central American and Caribbean Games, in addition to taking home silver in the 1,000 metres match sprint at the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch. Mirander returned to the Olympics in 1976, where he rode in the sprint event in the velodrome at the Montréal Games.

Mirander later moved to the United States, living in Deerfield Beach, Florida, and becoming a US citizen in 1979. He continued to compete in track cycling in the US, winning several races in senior-age categories.
