Biography

Otto Männel finished 44th in the 315 km individual road race at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, which was held as an individual time trial. This helped Germany finish sixth in the team road race, although he was not among the top four German finishers. Germany was the only 11 man-team to have all squad members finish the race.

Männel, who came to Berlin in 1906 and was active as a racer well into the 1920s, headed his club Berliner Radfahrer Club Zugvogel 1901 as chairman for a long time. Although he was subjected to reprisals by the Nazis in the 1930s, and was even banned from practicing his profession as a civil servant, he continued to work for Zugvogel. He also took care of the revival of the club in 1950.
