Biography

Cyclist Andreas Petermann finished 10th at the 1980 Moskva individual road race. Placing second with road time trial teams of SC DHfK Leipzig in 1978, 1979, and 1983, he won the national title in 1981. In 1979, Petermann was World Champion with the former GDR team, and in 1980 and 1981 won the Thuringia Tour. In 1979, he placed second at the Peace Race, his best finish out of eight participations.

Petermann studied sports at the DHfK Leipzig (Deutsche Hochschule für Körperkultur) and became a lecturer for cycling sports at DHfK. He also worked as a cycling coach with the German Triathlon Union from 1995-2000. He then worked for several pro-teams and briefly with the national associations of Saudi Arabia and Morocco. From 2008-11 he was chief national endurance coach with the German Cycling Union. He also worked as a sports teacher in his hometown of Grimma.
