Biography

A pioneer of football in France in the latter part of the 19th century, Williie Attrill was a defender and captain of the Standard Athletic club. In 1893 he was responsible for organsing the first “international match” between France and England, when Standard played Marylebone FC. The following year he had the honour of captaining Standard to the first French title, which they retained in 1895. In the 1900 Olympic cricket match Attrill claimed two Devon Wanderers wickets in the first innings, including the important one of Charles Beachcroft, and held two catches in their second innings.
