Biography

A front row forward, Willcocks made his county début for Devon in 1901 and in 1905 played against the touring All Blacks, who heavily beat the home side at Exeter. He later played for the adjoining county, Cornwall, and in 1908 was in their side against the touring Australians. The following year Willcocks was on the losing side when Durham beat Cornwall 12-0 in the final of the County Championship. However, there is some confusion about the precise identity of this athlete.

Errata

Though first initial is inconsistently given across many newspaper clippings and reports as either "A." or "J.", references in the Cornish Telegraph of 1 Oct 1908 regarding the selection of the team confirm that Willcocks, a holder of an international cap and a 'prominent footballer', was the 1908 player. Further research has determined that person to have been Thomas Henry Willcocks.
