Biography

Peter Vander Pyl was born in the Netherlands in 1933 before emigrating to Canada when he was young. Vander Pyl met his future wife whilst working in a bank, with the pair getting married in 1958. He also became a keen field hockey player, becoming a member of the Canadian national team. In 1964 he played in Canada’s final group match against Malaysia at the Tokyo Olympics. Domestically he represented the Saracens Field Hockey Club in Calgary, with him receiving the Canada’s Governor General’s Medal for Meritorious Services to Field Hockey in 1992. In 2016 Vander Pyl was inducted into the Field Hockey Canada Hall of Fame along with all his compatriots who played at the Tokyo Olympics.
