A goalkeeper, Flood made his England schoolboy international début against Ireland in 1958, and the following year made the first of 120 appearances for Warwickshire County between 1959-76. Flood also won representative honours with Midland Universities, the UAU, Midlands Counties and the Hockey Association. Flood made his full England début against Wales in 1965, and went on to win 33 caps, as well as 16 for Great Britain, including the 1968 Olympics. At the Mexico Games, Flood was second string to Harry Cahill, but played in three matches against France, Pakistan, and Kenya, which all ended in defeat.
