Biography

The captain of the Lancashire county team, Alan Noble played for Huyton, Formby, Southport, Bebington and Alderley Edge and was the left-half on England’s winning team at the 1908 Olympics. All of Noble’s six England caps were won in 1908 and consisted of the three matches in the Olympic tournament plus appearances against Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Noble was the son of a Leicestershire bank manager and was educated at the Derby Public School, before going on to follow his father into the banking profession. Alan later emigrated to Australia, where he worked as a secretary for the Union Bank of Australia.
