Biography

Goalkeeper Wolfgang Rott played 100 international hockey (field) matches for West Germany from 1966-74. With the West German team he won the 1970 European title and a silver medal in 1974. He also received two bronze medals at the 1973 and 1975 World Championships. He competed at three Olympic Games, winning gold in 1972. In Mexico City he finished fourth in 1968, losing the bronze medal match against India, 2-1. In 1968 East and West Germany played their only international match in a preliminary round, with West Germany winning 3-2. At Montréal in 1976 the team placed fifth. Domestically, Rott played with THC Mettmann. His son Eiko also became a hockey player.
