Biography

João Bosco da Silva attended school at Escola Commercial Pedro Nolasco and was selected to play hockey for the Macau Hockey Club at age 16. He also played football (soccer) in school. Bosco emigrated to Hong Kong in 1956 where he worked for the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and continued to play hockey, then with Club Recreio. A center-half, he competed for Hong Kong at the 1962 Asian Games and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. In 1967 the itinerant Bosco emigrated again, this time to Brazil. With other Macaenses he started a hockey club, the Bandeirantes. Bosco taught many youngsters to play hockey at the Casa de Macau Gymnasium in São Paulo.
