Biography

Umberto Micco was an Italian field hockey player. Born in the United States, his father was a naval officer who had always lived in the town of Moncalvo in northern Italy. After graduating in Medicine at the University of Genova, Micco started working as a doctor in his hometown. As a politician, Micco was elected city councilor in 1965 and 10 years later was elected mayor of Moncalvo in a center-left coalition. He was known for his sober and effective oratory and his interventions in the City Council were lucid and incisive.

Micco dedicated himself to sport with equal commitment, giving life to the hockey (field) club in his town. He participated with the national team at the 1952 Helsinki Games and was later vice-president of the Italian federation. Struck by a serious illness, he died in December 1989.
