Biography

Juuse Tamminen was a Finnish teacher and author who lived in the spa town of Ikaalinen in Western Finland. In the Finnish Civil War, he took part in the local battle as a soldier of the anti-Communist White Army. As a writer, he wrote children’s books amongst others and was awarded in 1953 the Young Book Association Award and in 1955 the Topelius Prize for Varjagien aarre (The Treasure of the Varangians). With his short story Kaksi kilpailua (Two Races) he was already the winner at the Finnish Festival in the pre-Olympic year.
