Biography

Cheryl Van Kuren played hockey at Old Dominion University from 1982-85. She led the Lady Monarchs to three NCAA titles and one runner-up finish. Van Kuren was twice an All-American selection. In 1985 she was named Female Athlete of the Year at Old Dominion and was an NCAA All-Tournament team selection. Van Kuren also played lacrosse in college.

Van Kuren played for the USA at the 1988 Olympics and also won a silver medal in hockey at the 1987 Pan American Games. Her college degree was in sports medicine and she then earned a masters’ degree in exercise science and wellness, and an MBA from the University of Baltimore. Van Kuren later worked at the Arizona Heart Institute, and then became the Director of Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation at Union Memorial in Baltimore.
