Biography

Foil fencer Brigitte Oertel was eliminated in the second round at the 1972 München Olympics in the individual foil event. Four years later at Montréal she finished an unfortunate fourth with the West German foil team, losing the bronze bout against Hungary 9-4. Individually, she was again eliminated in the second round. In 1971 and 1977 Oertel won the West German foil nationals.

Oertel graduated under her married name Grass at the high school in Köln as an economic scientist. She then worked for years with Boston Consulting Group and became a professor of business administration in Köln. She then helped to build up the economics department at the high school in Bonn-Rhein/Sieg. In 2009 Oertel became president of the high school at Düsseldorf.
