Biography

German fencer Erna Sondheim came in fourth at the 1928 Amsterdam Games in the individual foil. In 1923 she earned her only national podium, placing third. In 1930 Sondheim won the 3me Jeux Féminins internationaux in Praha, and in 1932 won a bronze medal in women’s team foil at the World Championships, the first time that event was contested at Worlds. She died just a month before her 104th birthday, making her the longest lived German Olympian.
