Erna Bogen was born in Austro-Hungary to the officer and fencing-master Albert Bógathy, originally Albert Bogen. The family emigrated to Hungary after World War I. In 1938, she married sabre fencer Aladar Gerevich. From 1928 until 1937 she was a member of the Hungarian national fencing team. At unofficial World Championships she won two silver medals in individual foil (1931, 1933) and one with the team in 1936. From 1933-35 and at the first official championship in 1937 she was World Champion with the team. Nationally, she won 16 Hungarian Championships, as follows: individual – 1929-35, 1938-39, 1941, 1943-44; team – 1940, 1943-44, 1952. In 1952 Bogen-Bogáti retired from active sports.
