Biography

Maxine Mitchell competed at four Olympics in fencing from 1952-68, missing only the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. She was Amateur Fencers League of America (AFLA) foil champion in 1952, 1954-55, and 1958, and won team foil titles in 1956-57, 1959, and 1962. She was the individual foil gold medalist at the 1955 Pan American Games and won a silver medal in 1959. Mitchell also added three team foil gold medals at the Pan American Games in 1959, 1963, and 1967.
