Biography

Rodney Craig learned his fencing skills as a student at Merchant Taylors’ school, Middlesex. While still at school, at the age of 17, he beat the former champion Joe Garrett in the Middlesex Épée Championships. Craig joined The Army and, after appearing at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, finished second in the 1969 and 1970 national sabre championship to David Acfield. Also in 1970, Craig won gold with the England sabre team at the Edinburgh British Empire and Commonwealth Games, where he also won the individual silver medal.
