Biography

German foil fencer Uwe Römer finished sixth with the team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Individually, he was eliminated in the third round and placed 11th. At World Championships he won one team gold medal in 1993, two team silvers (1991, 1994), and an individual bronze in 1993. At the Europeans he added three individual silvers, and a bronze medal, as well as a team gold in 1998.

At German nationals Römer won the individual title in 1994 and 1997 and also won several team titles. Römer was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. He married his team-mate Rita König and became brother-in-law of the couple Susanne König and Steffen Wiesinger.
