Biography

László Kamuti started foil fencing after being inspired by his older brother. In 1960, László won the World Junior Championship in individual foil. At the World Championships, he placed sixth in that event in 1962, eighth in 1963, and fourth in 1971. As a member of the Hungarian foil team he won silver four times at the World Championships. He competed in four Olympics and achieved his most success in the team event, finishing 4th in 1960, 7th in 1964, 5th in 1968, and again 4th in 1972.

On the national level Kamuti won four individual (1961, 1963, 1965, 1969) and six team championships titles (1957-60, 1964, 1969). For 10 years, either he or his brother Jenö Kamuti, who both competed in the colors of BVSC throughout their careers, won the individual Hungarian foil championship.

Kamuti graduated from the University of Economics and worked in sports administration after his fencing career. He was initially superintendent of the Hungarian Fencing Association, then from 1980 until his retirement he worked as the head of the fencing department of BVSC.
