Biography

Paolo, Count Thaon di Revel competed at the Olympics in 1920 in épée fencing, winning a gold medal in the team event. He studied economics in school and then pursued a political career, eventually becoming Minister of Finance and Mayor of Torino (1929-35). Count Thaon di Revel was co-opted onto the IOC in 1932 and served on the Executive Board from 1954-59. He was supposed to step down because of the age limit in 1959, but his membership was extended one year to allow him to serve during the 1960 Rome Olympics. He was also President of the Organizing Committee for the 1956 Winter Games in Cortina.
