Biography

Lightweight Harry Marks had a brief but successful career as an amateur boxer. After losing to Abraham Vanderhout in the ABA final of 1897, he ended that year by capturing the prestigious German Gymnastic Society title by beating Bert Brewer in the final. The following year, Marks won his only ABA title by beating Edward Mann in the lightweight final. Marks subsequently appeared at the ABA Championships on many more occasions, but as either as a judge or referee. He was active as an ABA official between 1904-13 and, at the 1908 London Olympics, officiated in five bouts. The only one he refereed was the featherweight semi-final between Charlie Morris and Hugh Roddin.
