In the 1960s Hungarian ice dancer Edit Mató formed a strong partnership with Károly Csanádi, with the pair winning a string of titles. The pair started skating together in 1964, with Mató and Csanádi winning gold at the Winter Universiade in Sestriere, Italy two years later. At the same time they dominated the ice dance competition at the Hungarian Championships, winning four consecutive titles from 1966 to 1969. They competed at three World Championships and five European Championships, placing in the top ten on three occasions at the latter. In 1968 ice dancing was included at the Grenoble Olympics as an exhibition event, with it performed shortly before the Closing Ceremony. Mató and Csanádi were one of the 10 pairs to take part in the event. Edit’s daughter Krisztina Egyed represented Hungary at four Olympic Games from 1992 to 2002 in speed skating.
