Biography

Alex Orban was born in Budapest but left Hungary after the 1956 October Revolution, settling near San Francisco where he began fencing with the Pannonia AC. A sabre fencer, he competed for the US at the 1968, 1972, and 1976 Olympics. Orban was US champion with the sabre from 1969-72. He later switched to competing for the New York Athletic Club and won US titles in team sabre with them in 1965-70 and 1972, after winning team sabre titles with Pannonia in 1960-61. Orban was individual sabre champion at the 1971 Pan American Games, and won silver medals in team sabre in 1971 and 1975. Orban worked for many years as an automobile salesman.
