Biography

William Russell graduated from Harvard and also studied at the Beaux Arts in Paris. He later became an architect, primarily with the firm which he started, Russell & Clinton. Russell was US Champion with the épée in 1916, 1919, and 1925, and was on the winning team épée at the US Championships in 1920 and 1925. He donated the Russell Challenge Trophy for fencing, which is held in Belgium.
