Biography

Ken Watson was a long-time Australian basketball coach, leading the national team at various intervals from the 1940s into the 1970s. Watson coached Australia at the 1956 and 1968 Olympics. After he left the national team, Watson turned to coaching juniors, leading the Melbourne U-14 team to four consecutive Australian National premierships in the 1980s.

Watson’s basketball career started in the 1930s when he played for St. Lukes North Fitzroy, a club that later merged with others to form the Melbourne Tigers. He also worked in basketball administration, serving as secretary of Basketball Victoria from 1940 to 1980, and secretary of Basketball Australia in the 1950s. Watson coached only as a sideline, working as a math professor at Swinburne University from the 1940s into the 1980s.
