Biography

Batista was a Brazilian midfielder who began his career with Internacional of Porto Alegre, with whom he won three national championships, playing together with his national teammate Falcão. In 1982, Batista moved to the rival town of Grêmio. In 1983 he joined Palmeiras and then went to Italy with SS Lazio, winning two championships with them from 1983-85. He ended his career in Brazil in 1989 with Avaí.

On the Brazilian national team Batista won 38 caps between April 1978 and June 1983. He took part in the 1978 and 1982 World Cups and the 1976 Montréal Olympics and also won a gold medal at the 1975 Pan American Games.
