Biography

Born in Italy, Louis d’Ambrosio later became French. He was a student of well-known sculptors, including [Jacques Gréber]. From 1911 to 1937 he exhibited in the salons of the Société des Artistes Français and from 1928 to 1942 in the Salon des Indépendants. Especially in the 1920s, he was awarded numerous prizes and in 1932 appointed Knight of the Legion of Honor. In addition to portrait busts, d’Ambrosio created a series of athlete statues, but also gave ceramics a try. His works were influenced by classical sculpturing in France. His Jeune athléte au repos is said to have been created in 1923 and was bought by the state. According to the signature, a life-size bronze cast was produced in 1935 and is positioned in the town hall of Figeac in Occitania.
