Biography

Ben Verweij was born in Medan on the island of Sumatra, part of the former Dutch East Indies. He won a total of 11 caps, the first in 1919 and the last – after a break of four years – in 1924 at the Olympic football tournament. Verweij played for the Haarlem side HFC between 1911 and 1927, competing in over 200 matches. During that period, HFC twice won the Dutch Cup; in 1913 and 1915. Verweij was later a director of a company for dental products.
