Herman Wecke

Herman Wecke grew up playing soccer (football) in and around St. Louis. He played for two teams during his career, although they had multiple names due to sponsorship changes. He started out with Paul Schulte Motors in 1948, which became McMahon Pontiac in 1949. In 1950 he helped Zenthoefer Furs win the St. Louis Major League title. He then returned to his first team, then named the St. Louis Raiders, later to be renamed St. Louis Kutis SC. With Kutis, Wecke helped them win the 1957 National Challenge Cup and five consecutive National Amateur Cups from 1956-60.

Wecke played on the US national team at the 1956 Olympics, and helped them win a silver medal at the 1959 Pan American Games. He also earned seven caps for the US from 1954-57, playing during qualifying for the 1958 World Cup, although the US was eliminated. Wecke was inducted into the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame in October 1983.
