Biography

Stoyanka Angelova took up gymnastics in her youth and the pinnacle of her competitive career came when she was selected to represent Bulgaria at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. There, she had her best individual finish of 34th on the balance beam, and was seventh and joint-12th in the team all-around and team portable apparatus respectively. Following her retirement from active competition, she coached with the Bulgarian national time for some time, and then emigrated to Mexico in 1971. Once there, she began running the Mexican national gymnastics team and was involved with the Mexican Olympic Committee for nearly a half century.
