Biography

In 1950, at the age of 15, gymnast Valerie Mullins made her début for Wales in the win over Yorkshire at Swansea. The following year she was a member of the Swansea YMCA team that retained the British Women’s Team Championship and in 1952 was in the team again when they won it for the third consecutive year. Mullins also went to the Helsinki Olympics that year, and at the age of 17 years 207 days was the youngest member of the British gymnastics team, and was just 18 days younger than Gwynedd Lewis-Lingard.
