Biography

The West German women’s gymnastics team placed ninth at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics in the team all-around event. Team member Marlies Stegemann came in 48th in the individual all-around. Domestically she won the individual all-around event in 1967 and the national title in the floor exercise in 1968 and 1970.

Annegret Stegemann, the sister of Marlies, was a substitute for the German gymnastics team in 1968. Annegret later married Werner Heimeroth, an uncle of the later football (soccer) goalkeeper Christoph Heimeroth, who played with FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the German Bundesliga.
