Biography

Mikhail Grigoryev’s basketball refereeing career started in 1968 and advanced in 1974 when he qualified at a level to oversee all Soviet competitions at the national level. Three years later he became certified as an international judge, with his most notable appearances coming at the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics. In the former year, he oversaw the women’s final, as well as several of the men’s games. In 1992, now being part of the delegation of the “Unified Team” following the collapse of the Soviet Union, he was assigned to four matches in the men’s tournament. He also refereed at the Soviet Spartakiad in 1979, the final of the 1995 Universiade, and numerous international matches in Europe and the United States.
