Glyn Hopkins followed in his father’s footsteps, and became a gymnast with the famous Swansea YMCA. He was originally coached at the Sketty Olympic Club by the 10-times British champion Arthur Whitford. Hopkins was part of the Swansea team that won the first post-War British team championship in 1947. Swansea would win the title in three more consecutive years - 1948-50.
