Biography

János Mogyorósi-Klencs started his sports career in 1933 at Debreceni TE. After moving to Budapest, he was a competitor of the TFSE, the Postás, and then the Budapesti Dózsa. He won three national championships in the vault and five national championships in the floor.

At the 1948 London Olympics Mogyorósi-Klencs won the silver medal in floor, as well as finishing third in the team and the vault. In 1949, at the World College Championships in Budapest, he was champion in floor and vault, silver medalist in the team, fifth in pommeled horse, and sixth in the individual all-around.

At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics he finished sixth in the team event. Mogyorósi-Klencs was a member of the team that placed seventh at the 1954 World Championships in Roma and fourteenth in Moskov in 1958.

Mogyorósi-Klencs was a physical education teacher. Until he moved to Budapest, he worked as a coach for the Debrecen Vasutas Sport Egylet, and later became a methodology lecturer at the Újpest Dózsa. After his retirement he ran a conditioning tournament.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements in Hungarian and international gymnastics, he was posthumously elected as a member of the Hall of Fame of the Hungarian Gymnastics.
